Job Description:
The successful candidate would participate in developments
in the area of low noise analog receivers, electro-optical systems, analog
signal transport and cryogenic systems. Following are examples of the
anticipated works in this domain.
Low noise analog receiver systems for radio astronomy:
a. Integrated development of receivers containing mechanical/RF switches, hybrids, calibration noise sources, low noise amplifiers (cooled/uncooled), optical modulators.
b. Development of RF over Fiber (RFoF) systems and their integration with receiver modules.
c. Development of RF filters.
d. Development of control and monitor systems.
e. Integrated receiver system testing in laboratory and in the field.
Cryogenic cooling of antennas and front-end amplifiers in a system, based on cryocoolers with emphasis on portability:
a. Calculation of the thermal load of LNA and other electronics that may be incorporated inside the vacuum dewar.
b. Investigate the possibility of cooling hybrids + LNA + switching components.
c. Design the vacuum dewar based on the antenna and electronics that go within.
d. Identification of a compact pump to evacuate the chamber.
e. Prepare drawings of vacuum dewars for fabrication.
f. Design of a monitoring system for continuous logging of the health of cryogenic systems.
g. Testing of the performance of cryogenic systems in the lab and in the field.
